IFTA Quarterly Fuel Tax Reporting
IFTA - International Fuel Tax Agreement
IFTA is the International Fuel Tax Agreement of 48 contiguous States and the 10 Canadian Provinces bordering the US for uniform motor-fuel-use taxation laws of qualified motor vehicles operated in more than one member jurisdiction.
Who needs to report IFTA?
Colorado considers a qualified motor vehicle for IFTA as one that is designed, used, or maintained for the transportation of persons or property that have:
- 2 axles with gross weight exceed 26,000 pounds (or)
- 2 axles with registered weight exceed 26,000 pounds (or)
- 3 or more axles irrespective of weight
- combination weight that exceeds 26, 000 pounds
Colorado IFTA Application
To obtain an IFTA license, you should complete and submit an application for an IFTA license using the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) Application (DR 7119).

Keep a photocopy of the submitted form for your own records.
Colorado IFTA License
One IFTA license will be issued to each IFTA licensee. The IFTA license is valid for a current calendar year from January 1 through December 31 and would expire on December 31.
Colorado IFTA Renewal
Colorado IFTA license is automatically renewed if all your returns have been filed and paid. Carriers will be notified in November if the account is not in good standing. IFTA licenses will not be renewed and may be closed for carriers not in compliance by December 31.
Colorado IFTA Decals
Two decals will be issued for a qualified vehicle and there is no fee is associated with it.
Colorado IFTA Quarterly Report
The due dates for the Quarterly IFTA report are:

*If the due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday, the next business day is considered the tax reporting due date.

Colorado IFTA Penalties
IFTA reports not filed by the due date will be assessed a penalty of $50 or 10% of the total amount of tax due, whichever is greater. Interest will be assessed at the appropriate rate for each month, for each state for which tax is due.
Colorado IFTA Zero Report
Quarterly fuel tax return must be filed by each IFTA licensee even if no miles were driven during the reporting period. You have to submit a "zero" report.
